This movie did not deserve the praise nor the diss it received. It was a basic summer entertainment, especially good for an in-flight free movie.
Where people perceived as pandering, I thought it was simply bad writing. This was especially true for Ken. They touted this as woman power movie, but they gave Ken great depth and character development. It showed me these people didn't really know how to write women.
For a true woman power movie, watch Wonder Woman (2017) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
