Nosferatu (2024)

SPOILERS!!!

The first 1/3 of the movie followed Bram Stoker's Dracula loosely.  Thomas went to Count Orlok's castle to sell the Count real estate.  He saw peasants afraid of a certain supernatural being.  Count Orlok locked Thomas in.  Thomas went crazy, got out of the castle, made it home.  Count Orlok got on a boat to arrive at Thomas' hometown.

This was where everything went wrong.  Count Orlok came to the town looking for Thomas' wife, Ellen.  He wasn't the terrifying vampire that wrecked havoc.  Sure, he brought disease and killed some people, but he actually just wanted Ellen.  He couldn't even take Ellen forcibly; he needed her to say yes.  If he weren't a lovelorn little boy, I didn't know what he was.

SPOILERS!!
SPOILERS!!!

They burned Count Orlok's coffin so that he didn't have a place to return to.  Well, Count Orlok didn't even want to.  He and Ellen had sex all night long and well into day time and then he burned on top of her.  As a terrifying creature, I thought Count Orlok would choose his own life instead of a silly girl.  Well then, why did they need to burn his coffin?

This movie sacrificed the plot and logic so that it could be "artsy".  Masquerading sex as art was silly.

Everyone in the movie moaned like sex when they were in physical pain.  Ellen looked like she was in actual physical pain when she and Thomas were making love.  I think it was to contrast that Ellen loved Count Orlok more, but that was plain dumb.

The original story had a final chase scene to kill the vampire.  It was action-packed and emotion-wrecking.  This Count Orlok got himself killed by having sex with a woman far too long.  Meh.

Everyone thought they could make a better adaption of Dracula, but they couldn't.  Bram Stoker already thought of every logic and plugged every plot hole.  There was no need to re-invent the wheel.  See my review of Bram Stoker's Dracula.  The story cannot be shrunk into a movie.  It needs to be a full-blown TV series.

The cinematography was beautiful.  The set design was amazing.  The acting was great.  I like Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgard, and Willem Dafoe already.  Lily-Rose Depp is a surprise.  Looking forward to watch more movies by these talents!

The Wedding Vow series

19 November 2023 Update:  I finally finished editing book 4!!!  Now onto book cover design.  Will I make Thanksgiving Black Friday sale?  We'll see!

Original Post:
Book 3, To Hold & To Cherish, was published in April 2022.  I promised myself that the series finale book 4, 'Till Death Do Us Part, would be published by the end of 2022.  It didn't happen.

Four business trips and two personal trips in 2022.  Then grandfather passed away.  Now I'm in the process of moving and still without furniture after 2.5 months.  I'm exhausted.

No.  This is not allowed.  I've got to publish the last book by the end of 2023.  It's actually already written from the prologue to the epilogue.  I just need to go back to every chapter, edit, proofread, and add/delete background information such as weather, the character's clothing in the weather, etc.

In the meanwhile, I'd like to thank all the readers that gave me stars on Amazon and Goodreads.  Big promotions when book 4 is published, as an appreciation gift!

The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)

Great movie! I wouldn’t call it a scary movie. It was suspense-laden. It kept me at the edge. I kept guessing wrong

The movie was very faithful to the book. This was how I imagined the ship crew gone crazy when I read the book. The movie added some characters and one dog, but it didn’t take away the real theme: Dracula was scary and would feast on you alive.

How I wish they would make Dracula into a miniseries. There’s enough sex and blood to keep everyone happy.  See my previous post about the book Dracula.

28 Days Later (2002)

Artsy zombie movie. Can’t believe that was the description. I knew it was artsy when they got a big name star like Cillian Murphy to be naked.

The movie started with beautiful shots of London. Then it moved onto beautiful English countryside. Was this movie sponsored by bureau of tourism?

It was predictable as in who would die and who would survive. Math Teacher got bored at the end.

Renfield (2023)

Nicolas Cage was a great Dracula!  The acting was impeccable as he talked down to Renfield, and Renfield had no way of fighting back.  Words could hurt so much.

Some plot-holes here and there; so don't think too much.  Overall a very enjoyable movie.

goodreads

I am not familiar with this website:  goodreads.  Apparently it's imdb.com for books.

A reader rated five-star for I TAKE THEE and FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.

I TAKE THEE
FROM THIS DAY FORWARD

The author names were different on goodreads.com.  I was being a dumbass in the beginning of my "writing career" that I didn't know how to choose a pen name.  So I switched names after book 1 was published.

Apparently this reader has figured out that both author names were me, and enjoyed both books.  I'm so touched!

It's a great feeling to have such a dedicated reader.  However, I'm not tech-savvy enough to get in contact with the reader.  The internet's advice is to set up a mailing list so I could collect email addresses.  Then I could send out news, promotions, etc.  Unfortunately, I didn't even know how to set up a mailing list.

I'm sorry, my precious reader.  Please keep reading my books.  I'll do my best to write awesome stories that you'd like to read.

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD on KDP Select!

Tried using Draft2Digital for going wide for FROM THIS DAY FORWARD; didn't work.  Probably because I didn't advertise about it.  Also book 1 I TAKE THEE is not on Draft2Digital.  Why would anyone buy book 2 when they couldn't find book 1?  LoL NaNaKo, great marketing plan! 🤣😆😂

Starting today, I took FROM THIS DAY FORWARD off Draft2Digital and put it on Amazon KDP Select. That means anyone with Kindle Unlimited membership can borrow and read the book without buying it.  I TAKE THEE is already on KDP Select.  So now, at least both books are at the same place.

I'm still not doing advertisement about it, except here.  I'm a cheap ass.  Sigh.  😔

Writing Career II

I just put REDEMPTION and I TAKE THEE for free during Christmas on Amazon.

REDEMPTION

I TAKE THEE

Did free advertising on Snicks List for REDEMPTION. Did no advertising for I TAKE THEE. Even forgot to advertise the holiday sales on my own blog.

Sold 24 free copies. Not Bad!

However, only sold 172 pages read on Kindle Unlimited. That was what I wanted. People said even if the book is free, as long as someone is a member of Kindle Unlimited, free pages read still counts as real sales.

And then I put FROM THIS DAY FORWARD as $0.99, hoping people reading I TAKE THEE would pay for book 2. That was what online forum recommended. I sold nothing 😞😢

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD

Keep your day job, NaNaKo.

Dracula by Bram Stoker (1897)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I never knew Dracula was such a captivating story.  I was completely hooked from beginning to the end.  Bram Stoker sure knew how to set up cliffhangers; there were so many of them that kept me reading and reading!  I was completely invested with the characters, loved them or hated them.  I wanted to know what happened to them next!

Bram Stoker had got you covered on the male characters front.

You want a tall, dark, rich, handsome lord with arms like Thor but also not afraid to show his sensitive side?  And he also had puppies?  And he knew how to ride horses and operate steamboats?  You got Arthur!

You want a cowboy that had multiple ranches in Texas so he could spend all his time in London?  You got Quincey!

You want a doctor that owned his own psychiatric hospital?  You got John!

You want a nerdy dork but apparently hid his six-pack abs under all that Victorian clothing?  You got Jonathan!

You want a mysteriously man that spoke English with a sexy Eastern European accent and had a castle and loads of money?  You got Dracula!

And finally, you want a sophisticated mature man that was both a doctor and a lawyer and drank tea while slaying vampires?  You got Van Helsing!

Why hasn't HBO modernized this book?  Not shiny vampires, but be faithful to the story with modern background.  There's so much sex in between the lines.  All of the above male characters had their shirts off at one point or another; completely unnecessary shirt-less scenes but Bram Stoker still wrote them.  In addition, the female vampires were always described as voluptuous, hint hint big boobs.

Here are my picks for the characters:

Count Vlad Dracula - Benedict Cumberbatch

Jonathan Harker - Tom Holland

Mina Murray Harker - Karen Gillan

Dr. John Seward - James McAvoy

Quincey - Channing Tatum

Lord Arthur Holmwood - Henry Caville

Van Helsing - Liam Neeson

Renfield - Will Ferrell

The Three Beautiful Vampire Women - Scarlett Johansson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Charlize Theron

HBO, call me!

Oh, and Romania should totally promote its tourism every year during Halloween.  Tourists can hike the route taken by Jonathan Harker and get chased by wolves.  When they arrive at Dracula's castle, they can enjoy a delicious traditional Romanian feast while being surrounded by handsome and beautiful actors and actresses dressed as vampires.

I TAKE THEE: one-star rating on Amazon

ORIGINALLY POSTED ON 25 SEPTEMBER 2021:  Just finished the free book promotion for I TAKE THEE.  Some mofo gave me one-star rating.  Amazon didn't label it as "verified purchase."  It was a global rating so it was someone outside US.

I TAKE THEE

I couldn't say it didn't hurt; I just needed to keep reminding myself.  2000+ people bought free copy of I TAKE THEE and they didn't find it that bad to leave a one-star rating.  Also, 15 people found I TAKE THEE good enough to buy book 2, FROM THIS DAY FORWARD, for $0.99.

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD

So yeah, let me continue with book 3, TO HOLD & TO CHERISH, and forget about that asshole.

TO HOLD & TO CHERISH

20 September 2021 Update:  two people gave me four-star ratings!  One even left a great review and Amazon labeled it "verified purchase"!  Hopefully other readers will understand and ignore that one-star rating!

25 September 2021 Update:  one person gave me a five-star rating!  Thank you thank you whoever you are!

06 October 2021 Update:  another reader gave me one-star rating.  I'm sad😢.  On the other hand, I sold book 1 on 01 Oct and book 2 on 05 Oct; the retail prices, not on-sale promotional prices.  So I assumed there was a reader bought book 1, read it, thought it wasn't too bad, and then bought book 2.  Big thank you! 😊

25 November 2021 Update:  I'm up to three 5-star ratings now.  So happy!  😍  Big thanks to all my readers!
