Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Love this movie!  I've always loved this movie!  It was a commentary on suburban life.  People that wanted to fit non-conforming others into the suburban life.  People that couldn't care if non-conforming others fit in or not.  And people that would turn on non-conforming people as soon as they didn't like it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My boss said he started this movie but couldn't understand what it really was.  Fantasy?  Romance?  I said it was a social commentary on suburban life.  He stared at me and said, "NaNaKo, I wanted to watch an entertaining movie on a weekend night, not read an essay!" 😂

Math Teacher thought it was ok.  There were several points in the movie that kept him guessing so that was good.  However, he was annoyed by the romance at the end.  Overall, he liked the movie but would not watch it over and over again like me.

Hercules (2014)

90 minutes of The Rock as Hercules kicking ass, showing off big muscles, and screaming at underlings, what was not to like?

A wonderful, entertaining, quick movie for a weeknight.  It explained all the myths of Hercules was simply PR campaign to drum up Hercules' mercenary price.  We were guessing who would die in the movie (a game that Math Teacher and I play while watching anything); we were wrong about all of them.  I enjoyed it very much!

OMG I thought 2014 wasn't that far away.  GASP!  It was 10 years ago!  GASP GASP!  The Rock did not look like he aged 10 years at all!  What was his beauty routine?  Being awesome?!

Brokeback Mountain (2005)

I WISH I KNEW HOW TO QUIT YOU!

SOMETIMES I MISS YOU SO MUCH I CAN HARDLY STAND IT.

Everything was beautifully and delicately made.  From the cinematography, to dialogue, to custom design, to directing, to acting.  This movie was perfect.

I cried the first time I saw it in theater in 2005.  I cried again the second time I watched it at home in 2024.  Two people in love but couldn't be together because the society said so.  It tugged at the heartstring too much~ 😢😭

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004), The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines (2006), The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008)

Funny, goofy, low-budget special effects, but overall enjoyable TV movies.  They were that kind of movies I played them in the background, walked away to do chores, occasionally came back to check them out, then had some laughs.

Vertigo (1958)

I had such a great time watching North by Northwest so I thought I'd give Vertigo a try.  Nope.  Not for me.

It started out slow and then remained slow.  The twist came at the last half hour of the movie.  I was getting the "meh" vibe.  It was still an interesting movie.  A story could be about unlikable characters because they represented life.  However, the murder motive was never explained.  The suicide came so sudden.  A side character was not necessary.

I'm at the point in my life that, on a Sunday night, I wanted to watch engaging, entertaining movie.  I don't want to watch a depressing movie.

Fletch (1985), Fletch Lives (1989)

This was in the same genre as North by Northwest (1959).  Don't believe what they said about "comedy, crime, mystery."  It was more of a suspense, but at no point that I felt the main character, Fletch, was in serious mortal danger.  It wasn't funny either.  It was more of a "guess whodunit" plot.  It did keep me guessing what was going to happen next.  ⭐⭐⭐

Fletch 2 was in the same vein as the first one.  There were many twists at the end so it was still very enjoyable.  I understood Chevy Chase's humor more in this one.  He referenced a lot of things that I did not know.  However, for the references that I did know, he talked way too fast; if I didn't catch it, then I totally missed it.  ⭐⭐⭐

Les Miserables (1998)

I watched this movie when it first came out, and Liam Neeson has been my #1 man ever since.  Tall, strong, broad shoulders, and the dominating strides.  All the package in one man.  💓💖💗💘😍

Two themes were present in this movie.

1.  How far would someone go to atone one's sins?
2.  How far would someone go to uphold the rules of the law?

There were no villains in the movie.  Everyone came from different background with different thought process.  That was the real conflict.

When Liam Neeson was trying to hold back his tears at the end of the movie because he was finally free, I cried!

Les Miserables (2012)

When this movie came out, everyone forgot about Liam Neeson's Les Miserables (1998).  I was so mad because I thought the other movie was a far superior product.

I felt nothing in this movie.  The songs didn't inspire me.  The Thenadiers singing was intrusive.  The movie was too long.  Anne Hathaway cried her eyes, but it felt like she overdid it.

Basically I was just unhappy that everyone forgot Liam Neeson was also Jean Valjean.  Mr. Neeson should've gotten more applauses back then, not when he finally did Taken 1, 2, 3.
